6 Amazing Benefits Of Using A Singing Bowl
I meditate for a few minutes every morning as a part of my morning routine. In the past, some morning’s I found it quite difficult, as my mind would be racing with thoughts and things that I needed to get done that day as I also prepared to go to work.
I remember searching online for different tips that might help me meditate more easily. This is when I first heard of ‘singing bowls’ and their many amazing benefits.
People have been using singing bowls for thousands of years. Their origin is unknown, but it is believed that they first originated in either Nepal or India.
In Tibet they were largely used as a ceremonial instrument and initially as possibly food bowls. It was not until the 1970’s that singing bowls also became popular throughout the west when their many positive benefits were discovered.
Singing Bowl Benefits
Singing bowls not only look great, they also have many amazing healing and transformative properties. Here are 6 benefits of using a singing bowl.
1. Promote Deep Relaxation
Holding a singing bowl in the palm of your hand and using a wooden mallet or ‘striker’ in the other hand as if you are holding a pen, by gently and slowly going around the edge of the bowl with the mallet in a clockwise direction, the bowl will start to ‘sing.’
As you hear the wonderful tone and feel the bowl vibrate, you will become more conscious of your breathing and start to feel more relaxed.
This calming sound coupled with your breathing can help to release tension and promote a wonderful sense of calm and relaxation.
2. Reduce Stress and Anxiety
I have found that the almost hypnotic sound from a singing bowl helps to clear my mind of any stress and anxiety that I might be feeling. The resonance of the bowl synchronizes brain waves to induce a deep meditative and peaceful state.
I also like to gently strike the side of the singing bowl once or twice to fill my room with the beautiful sound of the bowl, this almost feels like it clears the room of any possible negative energy.
3. Chakra Balancing
In the Indian system of healing, when a physical dysfunction occurs, it is believed that one or more chakras are blocked, or unbalanced. Many people find that the rich blend of harmonic overtones which the singing bowls produce, have a direct positive affect on balancing the chakras.
When used as part of chakra balancing, singing bowls are said to have the ability to adjust and balance the sine waves of each chakra. The frequency from a singing bowl is able to travel from chakra to chakra, self-balancing.
4. Aid The Immune System
It is said that the vibrations from a singing bowl can also help to stimulate the immune system. The sound frequencies created by a singing bowl help to restore, optimize and balance the flow of energy in the parts of the body where this is required.
It is recommended that you should play a singing bowl in the clockwise direction, as the energy in a human body also flows in a clockwise direction.
5. Help You ‘Get In The Zone’
Singing bowls cause the brain to switch to Theta brainwave frequencies that heighten one’s clarity, intuition, as well as deep peaceful and meditative states. Scientists have discovered the upper end of the theta brainwave range produced by a singing bowl is what is considered vital to the healing of the body, mind, and spirit.
This is referred to as “being in the zone.” After using my singing bowl, I always feel a wonderful sense of clarity and focus. This is another reason why I love to use a singing bowl as a part of my morning routine.
6. Improve Circulation and Blood Flow
A study published in the American journal of Health Promotion in 2014 found a greater reduction in systolic blood pressure and heart rate after a 12 minute relaxation session of singing bowls compared to silence. The sound from a singing bowl can reduce brain activity and therefore slow down our respiration and heart rate.
Meditation Bowl Benefits:
I have tried a few different singing bowls; my favorite is the beautiful singing bowl from ‘Shanti.’ Each singing bowl is made using traditional techniques.
The ‘Shanti’ singing bowl creates a beautiful sound of warm, rich and vibrant overtones. Ascetically, the ‘Shanti’ bowl also looks great and fits perfectly in my hand.
Picking a singing bowl is a personal choice; different bowls give off different sounds and they come in many different sizes. It is important that you choose a bowl whose sound and vibration resonates with you.
I really hope that you start using a singing bowl a a part of your daily ritual. I wish that I had discovered singing bowls and their many benefits years ago.
